DASSHERA
CELEBRATIONS
Children of Junior Kg. celebrated Dasshera festival on
22nd October, 2012. As part of the Dasshera celebrations,
children were dressed in ethnic clothes. Teacher explained to the children
about the importance of the festival and also informed that Dasshera is widely celebrated in
different parts of India.
Word Dasshera is derived from Sanskrit words “Dasha”
& “hara” meaning removing the ten (10) evils. Dasshera is
celebrated on the 10th day, after the Festival of Navaratri, also known as
Durgotsav, as in the first nine days the Divine Mother Goddess Durga is
worshipped.
Dasshera signifies several auspicious
occasions in Hindu mythology such as the victory of Ram over Ravana and victory
of Durga over Mahishasur. Dasshera is the festival of Victory of Good
over Bad and God over Devil.
As part of the celebrations, children drew the picture of Ravana
in their scrapbook. Children also performed ‘dandiya’ to several festive songs.
Children had great fun and entertainment.
