The 7 Habits of a Wittian
Witty
International School, Pawan Baug, held a seminar on the 24th of
September on ‘The 7 Habits of a Highly Successful Teen’ for its students, by Dr
Vinay Jain, the Director of the School. Dr Jain kept his young audience enthralled
throughout the two hours with jokes to maintain a light-hearted atmosphere and
erase any kind of fear or communication gap between student-teacher
relationships.
He
started this interactive session by asking the Wittians what kind of people
they are; one, who make things happen; or people who look at things happen or the
third; who simply wonder why something’s happening to no avail and the Wittians
all put themselves into the first kind.
A clapping exercise followed with Dr Jain explaining how important
perfection is to life, even when one claps.
Various concepts such as perfecting oneself through not only practice,
but ‘perfect’ practice; thinking ‘win-win’; recognizing weaknesses and working
upon strengths; working in spite of problems is the true kind of hard work and
that every problem has solution; recognizing opportunities; being proactive and
responsible for oneself; prioritizing and developing self-esteem and self
confidence by avoiding comparison and having realistic expectations were explained
with the aid of his splendid sense of humour .
He
guided the students on how to set goals by first zeroing in on a ‘Mission’ (Why
one wants to do something?) and then know what exactly one wants to do (the ‘Goal’)
and then planning out the route to achieve the goal (the ‘Objectives’).
The
students were encouraged to have a SMART Goal, i.e., a Specific, Measurable,
Achievable, Realistic and Time-bound goal.
According
to the Principal, Mr Bijo Kurien, “Such motivating lectures are essential for
students as the competition has now increased and this is a cause of stress for
them. The kids need a direction since something without a direction has no
meaning. Especially the tenth grade needs to cope up with the boards-pressure
and it’s essential for the students who haven’t yet decided what to do further
in life. We will be having more of these lectures as I could see how
enthusiastic the students were.”
Dr
Jain concluded his motivational speech by saying, “Witty students will run
behind excellence, not behind success. They will only give their best shot and
do something not only for themselves but also for their Motherland – India.
They will do what is of benefit to mankind.” The session ended with the
national anthem.
