International
Youth Day was created by the United Nations and first celebrated in 1998. The
event is now marked on 12 August each year; the day aims to celebrate the
contribution youths make to the society. Young people have led the world in
encouraging recycling and green lifestyles and the use of new technology like
mobile phones, I pods and social networking sites.
The
theme of International Youth Day 2015 is “Youth Civic Engagement.”Wittians were
shown videos of young entrepreneur, cartoonist, designer and activist,
scientist and app developer to highlight the achievement of youth. They were
highly empowered by seeing the motivational videos. This helped to raise
awareness about the importance of youth civic engagement and its benefits to
the individual and to society, including for sustainable development as well as
resilience and wellbeing.
