Witty International School, PawanBaug, we believe that trips and excursions are
a perfect way to expand one’s horizons. This is why we organise regular
excursions for students to promote learning through outdoor interactions, and
experiences. In addition, such trips also instil a sense of appreciation for
the wonders of the earth and exposes one to a wide variety of cultural and
geographical ecosystems. The students of Grade VIII, IGCSE- I and AS Level were
taken for a magnificent visit to an Art Gallery exhibition titled –
Antarclicka. The highlight of the exhibition was that a 16-year-old boy,
Karmaditya Baldota, clicked all the stunningly beautiful pictures.
If
photography is painting with light, Karmaditya Baldota is an artist who, at the
age of 16, can operate his camera with as much ease as he uses his brush and
mould to create paintings and metal sculptures. What began as a casual fiddling
with his father's camera during a family outing went on to become a passion
potent enough to whet an insatiable appetite of creativity. Karmaditya is a
born adventurer and incurable photographer, who has traversed across various
geographies, right from Galapagos, Masai Mara, Serengeti, Kanha and Jawai to
Botswana. Be it antelopes, alligators, whales, penguins, flamingos or wild
cats, his lenses capture the essence of wildlife with an eagle-eye precision.
Antarctica
is the last and largest unspoiled wilderness area on Earth. It is a reminder of
what the planet was like before the influence of man. The whole of humankind
benefits from this isolated continent. Karmaditya Baldota had captured through
his lens the pristine beauty and unique marine life, which includes whales
breaching, seals sleeping and penguins playing. His photographs transported
each student to this frozen windswept continent and showed in vivid detail what
we stand to lose due to climate change.
The
children had a one-on-one discussion session with Karmaditya to understand and
appreciate the talent behind the exclusive clicks. "My trip to Antarctica
was an experience unlike any other— it was on my bucket list for long, which
now has been ticked off," Baldota told the students. The route of the cruise was Ushuaia to
Falkland, to South Georgia and then Antarctica, and, he took pictures "at
every spot I could". Baldota realised how to handle one's excitement with
patience. "That is the most important thing to learn. There was a point
where I was trying to get the picture of a penguin, fearing that I would be
bitten by a fur seal from behind. It was scary!" The students were left stunned and amazed to
see such raw talent at a young age. It was truly inspirational to watch
Karmaditya Baldota being felicitated by the school.

like nothing else can, a chance to connect, understand, and explore
perceptions, feelings, and innovative thoughts. Art exhibitions provide a space
for reflection, experimentation, inspiration, creativity, enjoyment and allows
for authentic learning experience. Bringing children to Art Galleries opens
their eyes to different ideas and perspectives that are relevant to their
lives. This kind of exposure can help develop higher critical and creative
thinking skills, which are integral to future success, ” remarked the Principal,
Mr Bijo Kurian.
