Nursery Field trip to M P Aquarium 11-12

We come in all colours and we love to stay in the water,
Some crawl with their feet, some swim with their fins,
We mean no harm and are a sight to see,
Do you know who are we??

Sea creatures!!
The children of Nursery section were taken for a field trip to M.P. Aquarium. They saw various coloured fishes, big and small, swimming away in the water tanks. The children were shown the colourful weeds and stones found on the sea bed. The children were very excited as they could relate to all the features that were taught to them in class. Thus, the field trip was a very fruitful experience as learning always becomes simpler when taught in a practical manner.

Jr. Kg. Field Trip to Nehru Science Centre

FIELD TRIP TO NEHRU SCIENCE CENTRE

The children of Junior Kg. were taken for a field trip to The Nehru Science Centre in Worli on Saturday, 10th of December, 2011.

The theme for the children of Junior Kg. during the month of December was Natural Giants, Man-made Giants and Big-Bigger-Biggest. For the better understanding of this concept, they were taken for a field trip to the Nehru Science Centre.

On the way to the Nehru Science Centre, children were shown the Worli Sea-link Bridge and were given the information about it also being one of the man-made giants in the city of Mumbai. They were also shown the various skyscrapers and explained about them too being Man-made giants.

At the Nehru Science Centre, children were taken for a Science show, where children were shown natural giants such as the Niagara waterfalls, which is the largest waterfall on Earth. The children were also shown the visuals of the Sahara desert in Africa and Amazon forest in South America. An explanation about the animals in the Amazon forest, such as elephants, hippopotamus, giraffe, different varieties of monkeys, lion, snake, different varieties of birds, bugs and tall trees was also provided. These visuals helped the children to co-relate with the teaching concepts of Natural Giants and Big-Bigger-Biggest. The show also included visuals about the Tibetan Civilization. The last part of the show was about the beauty and wealth of nature.

The field trip was highly effective in making the children understand about the concept of the month. Moreover, they had great fun as it was a different kind of an experience for them.

Poetry Recitation Competition for Jr.Kg.

POETRY RECITATION COMPETION FOR JUNIOR KG CLASS

Reciting poems and rhymes are very important for the development of children as it improves vocabulary skills of children and helps in their cognitive development. Children who memorize poetry learn a wide range of descriptive words that they might not encounter frequently in reading.  Children also love songs and rhymes with actions.   This encourages them to be involved in group activities.  They not only learn the song but the actions too, which in turn also helps in the gross motor and fine motor development.

In line of the same, poetry recitation competition was held for the children of Junior Kg on Friday, 23rd of December, 2011. Children enthusiastically participated in the competition and recited poems of their interest. To encourage the children, participation certificates were distributed to all.

SPARKLE- A Talent hunt Competion

Christmas is a wonderful time of the year when joy, hope, generosity, goodwill, and fellowship is around, and it is one of the most exciting and festive holiday. In various schools, the norm to celebrate Christmas is generally done by decorating the class, singing carols, decorating the Christmas tree etc. But Witty International School, Malad (w) decided to celebrate this festival in a different manner. The school held an intra-school competition called “Sparkle” under the leadership of our Principal Mr Bijo Kurian.

Talent has always been recognized, encouraged and nurtured at Witty International. Students are provided wide exposure to exhibit and enhance their inherent talents through participation in various intra-school competitions. “Sparkle” was one such event which gave the students an opportunity to participate in numerous activities ranging from art and craft to singing to dancing to poetry recitation and many more. There were two groups formed. Group 1 consisted of students of grade 4 to 6 while Group 2 consisted of students of grade 7 to 9.

The day started with the teachers explaining the importance of Christmas to the students and continued with them singing few Christmas carols. The “Sparkle” competition started at around 7.30 a.m.
Art and craft event:- The art and craft activity was made compulsory for all students. There were various options for the students to select from such as best out of waste, pot making, mask making, landscape designing etc. One hour was allotted to the students to complete their activity. The articles were kept for display in the library. The entire library came to life with a kaleidoscope of various colours. Household items like glass, bangles, matchsticks, paper, and cotton wool were used to create decorations, wall-hangings, pen-stands, and many other craft items. The hard work and dedication with which the projects were made was evident in their beauty and precision. This activity helped the students to improve hand-eye coordination, allowed to hone their creativity, and enabled them to develop aesthetic skills. Overall, not only the craft items but also the manner in which they were presented was exquisite and enthralling. A walk through the library was like walking through a visually-stimulating realm of creativity.

Once the students completed their art and craft activity they were given time to decorate their class according to the Christmas festival. Students used decorative hangings, lanterns, mistletoes etc to decorate their class. The feel of Christmas was evident in the air.

The students then continued with their next set of events which were organised for them. Here the students had the option to select any one event out of the various options given to them.

Poetry Recitation: - Poetry has the power to create emotions and imagination. Students’ expressions are always heavenly and when they come with the flow of a poem, rhythm, facial nuances, and natural gestures and, above all, honey-dipped tone, it becomes a most delightful occasion to witness. Teachers and students witnessed the same delight when the students participating in the poetry recitation competition recited the poetries.

Storytelling competition: - The art of storytelling has been going on since ages. It is a beautiful way of expressing ones thoughts, ideas and emotions. This extraordinary art was witnessed in our Wittians when they took part in the storytelling competition. The students recited stories from the famous Panchtantra fables, Amar Chitra Katha, etc. Every story had a meaningful end and had a message which was put across to the audience. The students had come dressed in their characters and carried props to enhance their performance.

Mimicry competition: - Mimicry is an art by which the students express their thoughts and emotions with the help of gestures and facial movements. The students got a chance to imitate many famous personalities, their icons, characters from movies, cartoon characters etc. It was a delight to see the students imitate so well. Wittians did their best and staged a well synchronized performance balancing both the voice modulation and gestures. This activity gave the students an opportunity to explore and enhance their acting and creativity skills. The students had also dressed in the character which they were performing.
Singing competition: - In an attempt to encourage and tap talents in the field of music, a singing event was held for the students. This event saw the maximum participation. Students of all grades were very enthusiastic about this event. They could sing any devotional or bollywood song. Students mesmerized and enthralled the audience with their melodious voices, while their fellow mates were seen cheering them loudly.
Dancing competition: - Dance is an art form that generally refers to movement of the body, usually rhythmic and to the music. To enhance this skill a dancing event was organised for the students. Participants provided a visual treat to the audience in both group and solo dance performances. This dance event livened up the atmosphere. The audience got to see a variety of dance moves which amazed the judges too. This event gave the students a chance to exhibit their dancing skills beautifully.
Books come alive: - This category was one of the first of its kind which was introduced to our students. Here the students had to perform any famous character from novels, mythological epics etc. It was exhilarating too see these characters come alive and entertain the audience the completely.

At the completion of all events, the students were overjoyed with the entire programme held for them. Their excitement and enthusiasm was highly contagious. Truly, it was a memorable occasion for all the students and teachers to see such tremendous response from the Wittians. We could witness a colourful mix of dance, creativity, music, art etc which gave boost to the morale of the students.
