RAKSHABANDHAN CELEBRATIONS
The children of Junior Kgcelebrated the festival of Raksha
Bandhan on Wednesday, 01st August2012. The teacher informed children about the festival that it
celebrates the strong relationship between brothers andsisters and also stated
its importance. The ceremony involves thetying of a rakhi (sacred thread) by a sister on her brother's wrist. Thissymbolises the sister's love and prayers for her brother's well-being, and thebrother's lifelong vow to protect her. The brother in return offers a gift to his sister and vows to look afterher as they feed one another sweets, which symbolises the sweetness of their relationship.
The teacher also explainedthat the “Thali” held by the sisters during the festivities consists of a lamp(diya), flowers, sindoor (vermilion) and sweets.
The celebrations also included a few fun filled activities where the childrenprepared their own Rakhi by using various decorative materials, after which thegirls tied the rakhi to the boys in the class.
