GANESHA –THE GOD OF BEGINNING.
Ganesh Chaturthi a Hindu festival celebrates the arrival of Ganesha on earth. Ganesha,
the elephant-headed God is believed to be vighnaharta -one who destroys and removes
obstacles and blesses us with peace and prosperity.
People celebrate this festival with great pomp and gaiety. The
festival lasts for 10 days, ending on Anant Chaturdashi with Ganesh Visarjan (means idol
immersion into water).
Sadly, many of the Lord Ganesh idols are made of plaster of Paris, and
decorated with other non biodegradable materials like plastic and chemical
paints, which degrades natural ecosystems, on immersion of these idols. A much
more appropriate way to celebrate the Ganesha festival is to replace these with
idols made of eco friendly materials.
A special assembly was held where students sang the mesmerizing aarti
and gave a splendid dance performance praising Lord Ganesha.
During Enrichment Hour students
were sensitized to environmental issues and encouraged to think of ways to make
Ganesh festival eco friendly. Students of Primary
Section, RCL, (Grade I & II) coloured the picture of Ganesha , while Grade III to V showed their devotion by
preparing Modak for their dear Bappa.
