International
Day of Yoga or
commonly and unofficially referred to as Yoga Day, is celebrated annually on
June 21 since its inception in 2015. An international day for yoga was declared
by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA)
on December 11, 2014, almost unanimously The Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in
his UN Address suggested the date of June 21, as it is the longest day of the year in
the Northern
Hemisphere and
shares special significance in many parts of the world. He stated, "Yoga is an
invaluable gift of India's ancient tradition. This tradition is 5000 years old.
It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfillment;
harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being.
Students of secondary section of Witty International School at Ramchandra Lane
also celebrated the International Yoga Day. Students were made aware of the
benefits of Yoga. A yoga session was conducted in the library during the
Enrichment hour. They performed various Asanas like ‘Surya Namaskar”,
‘Tadasan’, etc. It helped them to relax their body and mind.
