Witty
International School, PawanBaug, reinforced solidarity and unity as well as reignited
the sparks of patriotism on 26th January, 2017 when the
Tricolour was unfurled by the Guest of Honour, Lieutenant Rohan
Nayyar, from the Indian Navy. Lt. Rohan Nayyar is a
second generation, skillfully competent naval officer and Flying Cadre of the
Indian Air Force. He then served the country with the INAS 550 Flying Fish
squadron at Kochi flying the Dornier 228.
An
extravaganza of colour, rhythm, pride & love for the country followed the
ritualistic flag hoisting. The Student Council, formally welcomed the Guest of
Honour to the school premises and the plethora of events began. The programme commenced
with a spectacularparade with the beats of the school band.The 68th Republic Day celebration in Witty
International School was a colourful affair — tableaux from various states and
Union Territories in India showcased the varied historical, art and cultural
heritage of the country.The Tableauxwas followed by the mass drill where the
patriotic fervour gripped hundreds of students as they united with the whole
nation in a universal appeal of unity and brotherhood.The guests and the
audience were welcomed into the arena of Republic Day by the Head Girl
VanshikaDoshi. The Indo fusion welcome dance showcasing the Indian culture enraptured
every member present. Any republic day event is incomplete without remembering
the era of struggle that our great leaders had to go through. Thus to transcend
the audience in that era the little wittians walked the ramp as the great
Indian leaders.
Success of the country is sure when young India unites to
fulfil the dreams of making India a powerful nation with the ideas of our
Honorable Prime Minister, but the important question to ponder is whether we
are truly Indian at heart. To enable the students to understand the ideas and
thoughts of today’s youth, an English skit, “Globally Indian” was followed by a
striking street play, ‘EkKadamSwachhta Ki Ore.’The enthusiastic audience did
boost the morale of the performers with their thundering applause. The beautiful rendition of Patriotic songs in the
form of a Medley, “Miley Sur MeraTumhara” by the school choir was overwhelmed
by a standing ovation. The Hindi skit, “Aye VatanTereLiye”, dealt
with the poignant truth of the lives of soldiers where they put in their sweat
and blood to fight for their nation. It was truly an emotional play wherein the
audience genuinely felt grateful for the security that the soldiers provide.
This was
followed by a spell-binding finale patriotic dance performance paying our homage
to the Nation by felicitating the Indian Armed Forces for the commendable work
done by them in protecting the country from internal and external dangers. The
Chief Guests while being felicitated were overwhelmed with the students’ zeal
and enthusiasm in involving themselves with such finesse in the Republic Day

Nayyarsaid, “I am proud to see that the future of our
country is in safe hands for I can see unity, strength and self-realization
within all of you. You are treading cautiously on the path of becoming the face
of the nation”. The programme successfully showcased India’s progress from the
pre-independence era to the new millennium focusing on the core of India’s
achievements and its unique identity.
The
Cultural Program of Primary Section was graced and addressed by Major Alok
Prasad.A variety of cultural programmes mesmerised the audience. The school
auditorium reverberated with patriotic fervour and enthusiasm. The students
brought the stage alive with their passion and love for the motherland. Besides
songs and dances, specially choreographed for the occasion, Dance Drama on the
‘Constitutional Rights of Citizens’ depicting how Dr. B. R. Ambedkar drafted
the Constitution of India which was put into force on this day. The onlookers
witnessed a series of incidents in the history of India, the freedom struggle
and attainment of independence through a Mime Act performed by the students of
Grade 5. Students executed a wonderful skit titled 'Everybody’s Water' guiding
us to be responsible citizens to conserve our natural resources.Towards the
end, to highlight the famous saying ‘Unity in Diversity’, students of Grades III
& IV performed on the traditional beats of different states.

Kurian stated, “As the future citizens of our country, we all need to strive to
make India a Global Nation. Born in Independent India, three generations of
citizens do not carry the baggage of colonial past. The current generations has
the privilege of acquiring education, pursuing opportunities and chasing dreams
in a free nation. This sometimes makes it easy for us to take freedom for
granted; to forget the price that extraordinary men and women paid to win this
freedom; to forget that the tree of freedom needs constant care and
nourishment. Democracy has conferred rights on each one of us. But along with
these rights, come responsibilities which have to be discharged. Gandhiji said
and I quote: "The highest form of freedom carries with it the greatest
measure of discipline and humility.”
