‘Apart from education, one needs good health,
and for that, one needs to sports.’
Sports
and athletics have been an integral part of all Witty International School for
years immemorial. Keeping up the tradition, this year too, Witty International
School, Pawan Baug organized SYNERGY - 15th Annual Sports Meet 2016-17 with a flamboyant spirit on the 25th of February, 2017 at the school ground upholding
this aspect of sporting events.
The
occasion was graced by Ms.Pooja Surve, Technical Head Gymnastics - RIO Olympic
Games 2016 and a recipient of the prestigious State Government,”Shree Shiv
Chhatrapati Award 2009-2010” for achieving excellence in the field of
gymnastics. She is an admirable personality in the field of Sports motivating
our Wittians to discover their hidden talent in this field. The event commenced
with General salute by the band troop followed by a spectacular, impressive,
and a well synchronized March Past by the students of Grades IV and V who were
a part of Ruby, Emerald, Sapphire and Topaz contingents, rendered the
spectators, speechless and awestruck. On the arrival of the torch, the oath was
taken by Ms.Siya Modi of Grade V and the students solemnly pledged to uphold
the spirit of true sportsmanship. As a part of Opening ceremony, our Guest of
honour for the day released balloons to mark the expression of joy and
rejoicement declaring the Sports Meet open.
Our
Principal, Mr. Bijo Kurian, the man of distinct vision and a fountainhead of
illuminating ideas, an idol of knowledge, experience and inspiration to all of
us shared a few words of wisdom and encouraged our students to do their best.
The
collective heart beats of hundreds, the cheers and applauds reached the ears
making the wonderful morning fill with excitement and fervour. The most
intriguing aspect, embellishing the event, were the splendid field displays,
involving mass student participation, which included Mass Drill by the students
of Grade I, Zumba by the students of Grade II, Yoga by the students of Grade
III and Gymnastics by the students of Grades IV & V. A peppy dance drill
and an energizing exercise drill set the tone for the rest of the event.
The
much anticipated relay race, 50m, 100m and 200m races for both boys and girls
were organized. Once the races began, the air was filled with cheering and tons
of encouragement for the young athletes. The collective intake of the Wittians
and the sudden outburst of cheers were amongst the best feeling one could ever
hope to experience on that very day.
It
was an exciting day for the Wittians filled with lots of nostalgic memories of
the eventful and educational day. It highlighted the importance of the sports
and a sporting spirit amongst them. Students were felicitated with medals and
achievement certificates for their best performance in all events.
In
the Closing Ceremony, the Meet was declared closed and flame was put off with
the Beating of the Retreat.
The
Meet saw its culmination with the National Anthem. The Annual Sports Meet was
yet again another great success and a very enjoyable day for our Wittians.
