CULTURAL EXTRAVAGANZA
At Witty International School, Pawan
Baug we’re always waiting for festive occasions to celebrate with our students.
In a multicultural and cosmopolitan society, festivals provide the perfect
opportunity for them to understand and develop respect for other cultures and
religions and the past two weeks have been very generous, giving us two back to
back festivals- Ganesh Chaturthi and Onam for our Wittians to revel in.
Wittians of Grades I – V celebrated
these festivals amidst great cheer and the cultural extravaganza with a series
of art activities a couple of days earlier, where they made Laddoos from clay
dough, coloured and decorated the
garlands, etc that symbolized the spirit of this vibrant and joyous occasion. Students
spent a great deal of time choosing different coloured petals to beautify their
flowers and began making a “Pookalam” or a “Flower Rangoli” in the community
areas on Friday,1st September’17. This contribution gave the Wittians
an opportunity to display their creativity, familiarizing them with different
forms, sizes and colours.
While the teachers and students were
engrossed in a symbolic activity of Ganesh Chaturthi and Onam, a few other students
along with the teachers took an opportunity to explain that Onam is known as
the “Flower Harvest Festival” and described how both the festivals are
celebrated throughout India. The result was a beautiful creation achieved by
the contributions of all the students. Watching the students, one could see
them honing skills that would serve them well in any endeavour.
