MARATHI
DIWAS
Marathi Bhasha Divas was celebrated in Witty
International School, Pawan Baug, in honour of the Marathi language and in
keeping with the birth anniversary of Dyanpeeth award winner poet, Late V.V.
Shirwadkar or famously known as ‘Kusumagarj’.
Marathi being the official language of the State
of Maharashtra, the main focus of this celebration is to promote the Marathi
culture among the Wittians. The students viewed
power point presentations, videos of famous Maharashtrian authors, poets,
culture, art etc to enrich themselves with the rich Maharashtrian culture. A special assembly was conducted by the
students of Grade VII to highlight the importance of Marathi in our state.
Students
danced to the traditional beats of Dhol-Tasha to perform the native dance of
Maharashtra, Lavni. On the other hand, children also sung various peoms and
prayer songs written by famous Marathi poets. Speeches were also given in the
state language, Marathi, to enable the students to be equipped with the
richness of this heritage language. A skit depicting the killing of Mughal
commander Afzal Khan by Shivaji Maharaj, an important chapter in Maratha
history, was enacted by the students on the occasion. Through the
celebration the children learnt to appreciate this beautiful language and the
significance of this day.
“The day stands for
the pride of Maharashtra and the Marathi language. The new generation must
understand the importance of the language. To keep its heritage alive among school
students, this day should be celebrated. Shivaji Maharaj is the pride of Maharashtra and we should
learn his ways of administration and governance and should also imbibe his
valour, wit and brilliance,” said the School Principal, Mr Bijo Kurian.
