WIS
teams up for green initiatives
Witty International School, Borivli celebrated
Van Mahotsav Week, the Annual Tree Plantation festival in India with great
aplomb and enthusiasm. The primary and secondary section students of WIS celebrated
environment day with the slogan 'Go green'. They began the week by preparing
slogans, banners and nature paintings as a part of the Enrichment Hour activity.
Meaningful messages were put up all around on the importance of trees and how
they are the 'Lifelines'.
The programme started
with a group discussion by the secondary students on "Impact of Covid 19
on the Environment.” Students prepared a number of charts and posters depicting
the imminent dangers we are facing due to destruction of trees. Reigniting the luminous
halo of Mother Nature, students also came up with the brilliant idea of
planting saplings on birthdays, an idea which had lot of potential.
As a part of the tree
plantation drive, students worked on making their own kitchen herb garden using
easily available seeds like tomato, coriander etc. Wittians also spoke about
how they care about the plants at home. They resolved to take care of the
plantations throughout the year. Principal, Dr. Jennifer Pereira quoted, “Trees
have longed served humanity in one form or the other. On the other hand humans
have only threatened their very existence. Now it is our turn to reverse the
damage that we have caused and restore the balance between nature and man and
the first step towards this change is to plant trees.”
