Winston
Churchill had once said: “We make a living by what we get. We make a life by
what we give. A joy that’s shared is a joy made double."
Grade IV Wittians of WIS, Pawan Baug visited
St. Catherine's Home on Saturday, 13th October 2018 to celebrate the Joy of Giving Week.
The main motive for our visit to an Orphanage was to sensitize our future citizens towards the issues that the Orphans face and render help to them. The sisters who looked after the children narrated how they take care of them; look after their schooling, etc. The inmates of the home shared their experiences with our students and offered invaluable lessons of life. The naive faces broke into smiles of sheer delight when our students offered them things of their daily needs and spent time talking with them. It was indeed a moving experience. The visit enabled our students to emerge from the cocoon of familiar territories and their own needs to reach out to the needs of others. This visit not only sensitized the children but also enabled them to feel the Joy of Giving.
Wittians
came back with much more – they realized the value of their homes and families
and were amazed at the manner in which the orphans went about doing their work,
walking around the campus, going to their classrooms, etc.
There is nothing more
refreshing, more inspiring, more wonderful than the smile on the face of
someone you have just done something helpful for or when they receive something
that they needed the most. At the end, the students and staff were
enriched with the ‘Joy of Giving’ experience.
