Poetic evening dedicated to humor & laughter on Grandparents Day

Witty International School had organized “Hasya Kavi Sammelan” on the occasion of Grandparents Day on December 24, 2010. It was a blissful evening of poetry recital, one of the long cherished traditions of India.

The Hasya Kavi Sammelan, brought some of India’s most popular Hindi poets including Shri Surendra Sharma, Shri Subhash Kabra, Shri Mahesh Shastri, Dr. Sunil Jogi & Mr. Arun Gemini who entertained our grandparents, parents & children with their latest works while enriching the literary activities of the community.

The event was graced by the presence of Mr. Haresh Mehta, Managing Director of Shreeji Steels, Surat & Shri Baldev Singh Mankoo (Billaji), our beloved corporator, who were our Guest of Honour for the occasion. Dr. Vinay Jain, Principal Raina Jain, Principal Bijo Kurian and Mrs. Priyanka Mehrotra addressed the Poets & Guests.

The event was anchored by Mrs. Kanupriya Pandit, our proud Witty Parent, who gave a brief introduction about the importance of celebrating Grandparents Day & meaning of the Academic year theme – Life is Beautiful. The evening opened with lighting up a lamp & Sarasvati Vandana. The show kicked off when Shri Subhash Kabra gave hilarious introduction of the poets in medley of poetry revolving around their personalities.

The poets presented a vivid picture of contemporary society and their satire made our audience laugh and think at the same time. Shri Subhash Kabra’s timely anchoring, Shri Surendra Sharma’s four liners, Shri Mahesh Shastri’s Gujurati poems presented in inimitable style & Dr. Sunil Jogi’s & Mr. Arun Gemini’s unique style of poetry in hasya-vyangya (humor-satire) had our audiences in splits of laughter. Their poems contain a plethora of critical remarks mixed in digestable satire to make audience think about our culture & heritage.

The Golden moment of the show was when Dr. Vinay Jain recited a poem composed by him on the topic “Life is Beautiful”, the current theme for the academic year 2010-11. His poem was an amazing concoction of Life, Grandparents, parents & emotions. His poem was a real treat for our ears!

Truly said by Williams James over a hundred years ago – “We don’t laugh because we are happy – We are happy because we laugh”. Each day, millions of us experience life too seriously and don't take enough time to have a good dose of laughter. Witty International School took an opportunity and organized “Hasya Kavi Sammelan” as a way of sharing laughter while bringing families together.

A great laugh really is the best medicine!
