Elections at WIS,Bhilwara

Being in prefect council is an experience that teaches one on how to work with different walks of people, how to think as you go and how things work in an institution such as WIS Bhilwara. But more importantly it teaches the values of friendship & brotherhood, commitment & dedication and working towards a common goal. It is an experience that only few are privileged to experience, ones who are elected democratically by all the students.

Day 9: WIS- Broklede Exchange- Visit to Muiderslot and Farewell

After a wonderful weekend with the host families it was time for the final morning of our stay in Netherlands. Wittians visited the enchanting castle of Muiderslot, located in Muiden to the east of Amsterdam. Castle Muiderslot’s legacy dates all the way back to 1280 when Count Floris V commissioned the construction of a stone fortress .It was definitely a Fairy tale castle given its drawbridge, five towers, moat and battlements.

Students were taken through a guided tour of the castle introducing them to the castle’s rich history. The tour took us back in time to the seventeenth century, the age of Muiderslot’s most famous resident, the writer, poet and historian P.C. Hooft. The tour of the rooms gave a clear impression of the life of a castle’s occupants during the Golden Age as the Wittians viewed their painting, the furniture and utensils they used.

As the students wandered through the living room, the bedroom, the Bishop’s Room, the Castle Kitchen, the Knight’s Hall and the Prince’s Room, the guide told all about the culture, customs and habits of the Golden Age. Later students also visited the falconer in the tent on the Bastion, where they watched the beautiful birds of prey from close up. After the visit to the castle, Wittians returned back to school, and went back home to the host families to pack their bags. It was now time for final goodbyes and farewell and it was surely not easy. Over a period of time the Wittians had developed a deep bond with the Dutch families and it was like they had found a new family on the other side of the continent. The love, warmth and hospitality of our Dutch friends was overwhelming. The ten days spent in the Breukelen,

Netherlands, was surely the most fascinating and unforgettable life changing experience for the students. With tears in their eyes the Wittians bade final farewell to their Dutch friends and host families promising to write to each other and to always be in touch. It was definitely a rich and amazing cultural exchange between the Wittians and the Dutch Students.
