Odyssey - English Literary Sparks

Witty International School, Pawan Baug, under the leadership and incessant support of the Principal, Mr Bijo Kurian is relentlessly developing and enhancing the skills of every child in the school. On 23rd December, 2015, the school organized ‘Odyssey – An English Literary Sparks’ to augment the English writing and speaking skills for the students of WIS Pawan Baug.

The event was made compulsory for all the students. To enhance the writing and creative thinking of the students, a compulsory event of Story Writing Competition was conducted. The various competitions organized were ‘A La Mode-Personality Contest, Rhyme Time-Poem, Cinematic-Wit ’ Film Fest and Buy Me- Advertising & Special Promotions’.

The various competitions enabled the students to boost their propensity and amplify their interest and profundity for the language. It brought about self-confidence in their English speaking abilities. The ‘Buy Me’ competition enabled the students to bring out the best of their creative and persuasive speaking skills of the language and using it as a means to publicize and promote a product. Wittians challenged themselves to give their best and combat fear to face an audience.

This competition allowed the students to connect with the audience and also understand the concepts of creative presentation. The highlight of the event was the ‘A La Mode’ wherein the students proved their potential and enhanced their personality through an exhibit of their speaking skills and spontaneity.

‘Cinematic’ competition highlighted the methodical skills of children wherein they had to comment and discuss the various film trailers showcased to them. It gave an insight to the children to a world of English movies. They were able to judge the movie through an eye of a critic.

‘Rhyme Time’ permitted the students to pen down their thoughts in verse form in order to grow emotionally and intellectually, as language articulates and frames experience symbolically. Writing poetry is also a natural process, serving people’s innate need to explain themselves and their lives in the world.

The Principal, Mr Bijo Kurian truly remarked, “Odyssey – An English Literary Sparks is a day solely devoted to the development of English language: a day to commemorate the wide range of expression and emotion it offers and an opportunity to plunge headlong into a heady mix of dynamism and adaptability provided by English language.”
