Wittians touched many hearts through their contagious Patriotism! (15th Aug 2013, WIS, Udaipur)

At the stroke of the midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom. A moment comes, which comes but rarely in history, when we step out from the old to the new, when an age ends, and when the soul of a nation, long suppressed, finds utterance. It is fitting that at this solemn moment we take the pledge of dedication to the service of India and her people and to the still larger cause of humanity... (Jawaharlal Nehru, midnight speech, 14th August 1947)
Today we celebrate Independence Day because it was today that we became free from the relentless British rule. We had to wait for 200 years, and every passing moment seemed like eternity. In other words, it was a long time before we could regain our liberty and freedom of speech. And with freedom came responsibility - responsibility of carving out our nation and fulfilling our dreams with mutual respect and co operation. Founding Fathers of our country anticipated and dreamt of exemplary and beautiful harmonious India.
But are we still free? If we are, then why we hear, see, read or sometimes even personally experience unpleasant events like Bomb Blasts, abortions based on genders, youths being slave to drugs and/ or alcohol, falsity, corruption, nuclear war threats,  unemployment, or,  Lacks of kids and farmers dying from hunger, cold etc? Perhaps freedom in true sense lies in happiness and personal fulfillment of the humanity as a whole. So how we, students can contribute towards the betterment of our planet earth? We don't necessarily have to be Ministers, War generals, or famous leaders to positively influence our country, or even the world. We should try to see ourselves as a small rudder that can turn the entire course of ship and do whatever lies in our Circle of Influence. We should educate ourselves nicely, remain vigilant of current affairs, and share, write, or speak whenever we get an opportunity.
On this Independence Day, WIS sincerely tried to create such an opportunity for the students in school. Students expressed their devotion to our country and the entire humanity by dancing, speaking, acting, and even by helping to prepare for this day. If their humble attempts touched even one individual's heart, and if that individual even thought of doing something good for Bharatvarsha, then we consider our attempt of celebrating this Independence Day a success. Jai Hind!
