(Janmashtami celebration)
Govinda aala
re..aala…. Witty Kids mein aala.
‘Janmashtami’ marks the birth of Lord Krishna. All rituals and puja happen after midnight because it is said that Lord Krishna was born on a stormy rainy night at 12. Throughout the night, devotees sing songs of Lord Krishna. On the next day of Janmashtami, there is the ‘Dahi Handi’. On this day, a handi or a clay pot filled with buttermilk is tied high up. A human pyramid is made and the topmost person on the pyramid tries to break the handi by hitting it with the help of the coconut put on the top of the pot. The Dahi Handi festival symbolises the mischievous pranks of Lord Krishna and his love for buttermilk.
Janmashtami was celebrated at WIS for the Pre Primary section on Wednesday, 13 August 2014. All the Boys came dressed like Lord Krishna and girls came dressed like Radha and Gopi's. As a part of the celebrations, children were shown a short film on Lord Krishna. Teachers demonstrated the breaking of the traditional “Dahi Handi”. They then danced to the tunes of some of their favourite songs.
Children witnessed the event with great enthusiasm.
