WIS Pawan Baug spreads its wings in the world of Aerospace Engineering [2014-2015]

Witty International School, Pawan Baug has successfully launched its most distinguished segment – “WIS Lecture Series”, to bridge the gap between the industry, academia and students by giving an opportunity to all to interact with the most eminent personalities of varied fields.

After a successful launch last month where students were made aware of cyber safety by the Head of Cyber Cell, Crime Branch, Mumbai Police; this week the Lecture series of WIS Pawan Baug was graced by some of the brightest minds in IIT Bombay. The session was lead by Prof. Rajkumar Pant, the Head of Aerospace Engineering in IIT Bombay.

Prof. Pant’s areas of specialization include Aircraft Conceptual Design, Air Transportation, and Optimization. He has published and presented more than 100 scientific papers in international journals and conferences, and visited several top ranking institutes and universities all over India and the world. He has been a researcher at Instituto Tecnológico de  Aeronáutica, Brazil, Texas A&M University,  Cambridge University,  and Imperial  College London and has been selected as a Special Visiting Researcher under the “Science Without Borders” program of the Brazilian Government.

The Lecture and Demonstration held in WIS Pawan Baug was on “Principles of Flights through Aeromodels” and was highly interactive in nature. Dr. Rajkumar Pant addressed the curiosity of students about the purpose of various components of different types of aircraft's.

Apart from learning about the working principle of the helicopter, students were also shown a specially designed glider made of HDPE and a many more Aeromodels . The several misconceptions in the minds of students and teachers about how and why an airplane flies, were cleared and the exact mechanism of generation of Lift force using Bernoulli’s principle was explained to the students.

Overall the demonstration was enriching for the young Wittians as they could apply their minds on how far they could spread their wings.
