On Saturday, the 27th of September, Witty
International School, Pawan Baug, celebrated Navratri with a ‘Garba Raas’
program. Garba — which is the expression of merriment through energetic song
and dance was enjoyed by all students. Students from Grade VIII to A Level,
came to school dressed in traditional clothes, wearing a smile on their excited
faces.
From 10 a.m. to 12 noon, the day was solely for Wittians
to enjoy their Navratri. Dandiya which is a traditional Indian folk dance
for men and women was celebrated in great style at Witty International School,
Pawan Baug. Dandiya is a mesmerizing poetry of human movements in tune to
captivating rhythmic beats, intermittent jingling sound of bells, clattering of
sticks and electrifying flow of colours and light.
The children formed different circles
dancing to the fullest, tapping their
feet to the fervent beats of garba and dandiya wishing that Goddess Durga bestows on all of them
wealth, auspiciousness, prosperity, knowledge, and other potent powers to cross
every hurdle of life. And who does not like to tap their feet when hearing
those catchy rhythmic beats which are so captivating to both the ears and feet?
The dance steps were quite simple making it more fun for the children to
explore different dance steps along with the teachers.
The Principal of the School, Mr Bijo Kurian rightly
said, “Festivals are an integral part of our Indian culture and we at Witty
International School want to teach the students the importance of our
traditions and the value of festivals to foster bonds of brotherhood,
friendship and solidarity.” Truly the day was full of colour, joy, festivity
and enthusiasm.
