Witty International
School, Pawan Baug recently celebrated the French National Day on the 14th
July, 2016 with great pomp and splendor. Bastille Day is a day of celebrations
of the French culture. It represents freedom,
equality, and fraternity commemorating the 1789
storming of the Bastille.
The celebrations
started with the launching of Frenchinéma- Witty International School’s French
film festival. Students were shown two French films: Deux Frères and Les
adventures de l’abeille. During the week leading to the French National day,
enrichment hour activities were planned for the students. They were encouraged
to make hats, masks, candle holders, photo booth props and streamers using the
French flag colours. Students enthusiastically made models of famous French
monuments such as the Eiffel tower, Notre-Dame and the Louvre. The items that
were beautifully crafted were exhibited on the French National Day to give a
glimpse of the culture of France. With the help of these week-long activities
students learnt a lot about the French heritage and avenues. These activities were culminated by the celebration of
La Fête Nationale on 14th July, 2016. The event was graced by the esteemed Guests
of Honour, Mr. Frederic Langlois – a well-known French entrepreneur in the
hospitality industry and Mr. Christophe Legris – Director of Education and
Linguistics, French Consulate.
Wittians put up
a marvellous show to showcase their skills in speaking the language. The
welcome speech was followed by a welcome dance – La Bastringue, which showcased
the beautiful French Folk culture. A soulful rendition of amalgamated French
songs followed delivering the message of world peace. The students also put up
a French skit where they highlighted the importance of Bastille Day. Then there
was La Danse Pour S’amuser where one witnessed the little French belles
thumping and swaying joyously on an old village song. The celebrations came to
an end with a spectacular Grand Finale.
Mr. Cristophe LEGRIS quoted that “Language breaks barriers
between two countries and knowing a foreign language helps one to understand
the culture of that country. India and France share a varied diverse culture
and the French have always been fascinated by the Indian heritage and culture. Communication
is a garment of thought and today the need of the hour is to communicate in at
least two foreign languages as the world is becoming a global village and
connectivity is important.” He was truly honoured to be a part of such an
enigmatic programme.
Principal Mr. Bijo Kurian quoted, “As a school, we always aim
to promote international mindedness amongst the students thereby making them
global citizens and preparing them for a better future.”
Mr. Frederic Langlois
stated, “It was truly a pleasure celebrating the French National Day with the
lovely students of WIS. I felt very much at home in Witty International School
and I am particularly pleased to have the
opportunity to understand, through the civilization of India, its culture, the
spiritual elevation of its people and the ability of Indians to open to the
world.”
Finally, the entire spirit and zeal of the students
culminated with singing of the French National Anthem followed by the Indian
National Anthem symbolizing the ultimate merger of Indo-French unity. And with
this it was a curtain’s call for the mesmerizing French National Day.
