"Cultivate
curiosity; optimism and perseverance…Expect the best from the universe"
Creativity
is making masterpieces out of the discarded. Making the best out of waste has
been a part of human life since the early ages. It was the human creative mind
that gave birth to this extraordinary idea of using unwanted material in a
useful way. Hence, to think creatively, we must be able to look afresh at what
we normally take for granted. Best out of waste is one such craft which follows
this environmental friendly principle and at the same time creates useful and
picturesque objects out of waste products.
There are tons of little things we can do to play a
small part in reducing landfill waste, cleaning the air and preserving the
natural landscape. In order to make the students aware of the uses of waste
material, and to educate them on reducing waste to save our future, ‘Best
out of Waste’ competition was organized at Witty Kids for the students of grade
I-V. Students came to school prepared
with waste and decorative materials and left no stone unturned in using the
waste for the best of their use.
This
competition aimed to help students learn and progressively develop a sense of
love for the environment and understand that resources should be used
carefully. Little hands and imaginative minds came together in a creative
demonstration of decorative and useable items. Students used reusable and
recyclable materials to create an amazing array of items such as lucrative bags out of old clothes and
newspapers, showpieces from discarded CD’S, picture frames and pen stands from
ice cream sticks, wall hangings and jewellery boxes from old
shoe boxes, artificial flowers and trees from craft materials, puppets
from old socks and ties, the list is endless. It was really wonderful to see them create all
these!
The
competition also helped the students to develop their fine motor skills while
using different kinds of material. The children thoroughly enjoyed using their
creativity to innovate products that help preserve the
environment.
