Kargil Vijay Diwas is celebrated by Secondary Section at WIS, Pawan Baug (2020-21)

TRIBUTE TO THE BRAVE HEARTS OF KARGIL

Kargil Vijay Diwas is celebrated on 26 July every year in honour of our Kargil War Heroes. The Kargil Warwas an armed conflict between India and Pakistan that took place between May and July 1999 in the Kargil sector of Kashmir. The cause of the war was the infiltration of Pakistani soldiers disguised as Kashmiri militants into positions on the Indian side of the LOC. The Indian Army, later supported by the Indian Air Force, recaptured majority of the positions infiltrated by the Pakistani troops and militants. However 527 soldiers from the Indian Armed Forces lost their lives.Kargil Diwas is a day for recognition of the supreme sacrifices made by our soldiers and their exemplary courage in the cruelest of battles. It’s a day for reckoning of the blessings accorded to the rest of us by their selfless service to the Motherland.

Many of our youth are unaware of the wars our soldiers have fought. In WITTY our students were made aware of this important day by showing them a documentary detailing what transpired in Kargil. This was followed by an interactive Question and Answer session to clear their doubts.

Our students were left mesmerized and filled with admiration for the Armed Forces and at the same time felt a sense of responsibility toward the nation.
