Dictionary unlocks the secrets of the English language for millions of people. Dictionary Day encourages us to improve ourselves and the way we speak with others by enhancing our language in the study of the Dictionary. There is power in language, in the command of a broad vocabulary consisting of many words. Poets use words to describe a great and beautiful world, to enchant us and enlighten us. Scientists fiddle out the minutest of miracles in the functioning of the world, and pass them on by using precise and clear language that transmits information from one to another. So, it is only fitting that such a thing as Dictionary Day would exist to encourage us to challenge our vocabulary, to broaden it and perhaps take an opportunity to expand our language to the full scope of the tongue’s diversity.
Commemorating the anniversary of Noah Webster’s
birth in 1758, it’s largely an opportunity for Witty International
School,Bhilwara;English language teachers to organize virtual classroom
activities on 15 and 16 October encouraging students to build their dictionary skills and to exult
in the joy of words. Dictionary-themed games like ABC Countdown, Rewordable,
Online search, Riddles and Quiz, fascinated the students of grade 3 to10
to evaluate themselves whereas the videos ingrained in them a love of learning
and improving their vocabulary by using a dictionary or a web search
engine..The students could codify the entry words listed in alphabetical order
and how guide words help to find the words on that page faster.
