The word 'Guru' means
remover of darkness (In Sanskrit, “Gu" means darkness, "Ru"
means remover). Thus, Guru Purnima is the day of eradicating ignorance and
illuminating our lives with knowledge. On this day, Guru can inspire us to
overcome our limitations and conjure a life of wonderful possibilities.
Guru Purnima, or the Full
Moon of the Guru, is celebrated in the month of Ashadha (July-August). This day
is significant for disciples who seek to get initiated by their Guru, students
who desire to get the blessings of their teachers, and for everyone who wants
to honor persons of great wisdom and learning. This is a rare time to solve
unsolved problems.
In this whole world each
and every human being is thought by someone that we call "Teacher".
Mother is known as first teacher of a child from his/her birth. She teaches her
child about social things like how to eat, how to talk and how to respect
others. After a certain age children also need behavioral and cultural
knowledge to grow-up in this world. For that kind of knowledge he /she need a
teacher – a person who shows the path of success.
The Guru is considered an
embodiment of the archetypes Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. As per a Vedic saying,
Guru's form is the basis of meditation, Guru's feet are the basis of worship,
Guru's words are the basis of mantra (sacred sound), and Guru's grace is the
basis of enlightenment.
