‘We Care’ so here we are!
Witty International School believes
in taking unique initiatives and celebrating special days with an innovative
and meaningful approach. In keeping up with the philosophy this year, in
commemoration of "Grandparents' Day", Witty International School
expressed their love, gratitude and respect towards the senior citizens of our
society by organising a “Free Health
Check up Camp for Senior Citizens."
Witty International School has always come up
with different ways of bonding the children with the best of values. Like every year, this year they had organised
a health check up for grandparents with fun and play on the 28th of
February and 1st of March from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm at their Pawan
Baug branch at Malad (W). The Student Council of the school was instrumental in
organizing and conducting the entire program. Student volunteers were present
at the venue assisting the Grandparents for their medical check-ups.
In order to sensitise the grandchildren
regarding their grandparents’ health, the school decided to celebrate
grandparents’ day in this manner. The
various medical check- ups which were conducted were Orthopedic, Physiotherapy,
Gynecology, ECG, Ophthalmology, Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Medical Aid Counter, Dietician,
Acupressure, Nutritionist, ENT, Dental, BMD, etc. Cardiologist, Dr. Kamlesh
Mehta stated “The major motivation for all the medical experts to be a part of
this camp is that this camp was completely organized and executed by the
student council and their team of volunteers.”
This stood out from the rest as apart from the
regular check- ups it also included fun activities like Dance, Zumba, Aerobics,
Yoga, Laughter Club and Art Workshop. This concept was introduced to release
the Grandparents of their stress and worries and live a healthy life.
“We absolutely enjoyed being a part of this
unique Grandparents Day program. This medical camp has truly benefited us in
all ways. We thank the school for organizing a day filled with fun, laughter
and care,” expressed Mr. Ghule, a 70 year old grandparent.
The school also organised
interactive sessions in which panels of doctors answered the doubts raised by
senior citizens regarding blood pressure, glaucoma, postmenopausal problems,
geriatric care in men, diabetes, hypertension, depression, stress management,
lifestyle management and other age related problems. The medical experts kept
advising the elderly to change their life styles and follow good habits in
order to control various health disorders including heart attacks. Dr. Dilip
Pawar who gave a lecture on stress management stated, “Such educative programs
create awareness among the senior citizens that the medical intervention should
be complemented with self-help to maintain good health.”
To add to the beauty of the program, the school
also distributed a ‘Health Privilege Card’ to all their grandparents which
offered various discounts on the medical services provided by the doctors. This
ensured that the well being of the grandparents was not limited to just one
day; in fact it was extended for a long period of time.
This initiative not only boosted the physical
fitness of the grandparents but also the time spent with their grandchildren
gave them immense happiness which they always longed for.
The Principal, Mr Bijo Kurian remarked, “The
staff and students of Witty International School are extremely grateful that
they got such a splendid opportunity to serve the senior citizens of our
society. This camp was truly beneficial for all the Grandparents as it not only
strengthened the bond with their grandchildren but also provided them with the
necessary medical aid. We hope that we will be able to come up with such unique
initiatives year after year.”
The Trustee, Mr Vinay Jain stated, “The aim of
this program was not only to create health awareness amongst the senior
citizens but also to sensitise the grandchildren towards the problems and
issues related to their aged grandparents.”
Thus the program, “We Care – Health Check up
Camp with Fun n Play” was truly a one of its kind where the well being of our
senior citizens was duly looked after.
