INTERNATIONAL JOKE DAY
In
this world of turmoil and strife, everybody needs a good laugh now and then. On
this note International Joke Day is
celebrated each year on the 1st of July. The aim of this day is to
spread joy and cheer through jokes and funny activities. The need for such a
day arose because the world is a lot worried now than it was ever before.
Stress, hypertension and lack of physical activity have made us dull and lethargic.
Our preoccupation with a series of tasks have left no room for fun and frolic
which is the essence of life. This day serves as an impetus to increase
socialisation in this isolated world.
People
across the globe share funny jokes, funny e-mails, SMS’s, cards, videos, indulge
in light-hearted pranks or any activity which helps to spread cheer around.
As
it is rightly said ‘Laughter is the best medicine’, pupils at Witty
International School were asked to procure vocabulary related to jokes and
laughter and a discussion on the same was conducted in class. A Hasya Kavi
Sammelan was also conducted whereby pupils mutually exchanged humorous poems. A
few students engaged themselves in placard making which was displayed on the boards.
Some pupils went out of their way to surf the internet and retrieve information
on the importance of this day.
From
a student’s perspective, the children of today feel stressed in the academic
domain. They are often confronted with peer competition and fulfilment of
parental expectations to meet their aspirations. This day very specifically
provides an outlet for them for self expression and helps them to get de-stressed.
To
conclude, the pupils enjoyed the day to their hearts’ content for it served to
unwind with academics for a brief span of time. They laughed wholeheartedly and
spread an aura of fun and merriment all around. The smiling faces of the
children will always be a precious asset for the institution.
