Meet the Author a Session for Secondary Section at Witty International School Pawan Baug (2018-19).

 Meet the Author

Reading is an act of contemplation, perhaps the only act in which we allow ourselves to merge with the consciousness of another human being. Witty International School, Pawan Baug, encouraged the passion for reading and writing amongst the young enthusiasts of Grade VI to IGCSE I by inviting the prominent author Ms Shoma Narayan.

We possess the books we read, animating the waiting stillness of their language, but they possess us also, filling us with thoughts and observations, asking us to make them part of ourselves. But in present times we are becoming a society of people who rarely allow ourselves to slow down enough to think and contemplate hence it is becoming difficult to spend time reading a book.
Shoma Narayanan, an engineer and MBA graduate, after working in a bank for a few years, started writing and soon her books got published. Her books have been translated into more than ten languages, including French, Italian, German and Hindi. Ms Shoma discussed her book, ‘My First book of Money’ which aimed to teach kids about the basic concepts of money, and Shoma, rather than making it a guidebook, has imparted this knowledge in the form of a fictional tale, of Aman and Arya. Together with their Mom, Dad and Daadi, they take a fascinating journey into ‘money matters’ and start asking questions covering a wide variety of topics, such as banks, credit cards, salaries, currency, and even the “going cashless” trend that is all the rage in the country today because of the whole demonetization process.

Ms Shoma also said, “Some of the value based concepts the book purports include judging how much money one really needs, the difference between needs and wants, the importance of planning expenditures, not spending more than you have and setting money aside for charity.”
During the interactive session, the author patiently addressed the queries of the young minds and guided them with insights to improve their reading and writing skills.
Commenting on this initiative, Principal Mr Bijo Kurian said, “At Witty International, we believe, regular reading enriches vocabulary, helps brain development, enhances concentration, increases knowledge along with various other benefits. Such interactive sessions with renowned authors make reading an enjoyable journey for our students, while also allowing them to gain insights directly from the experts.”
