Raksha Bandhan celebration by Grade 6 (IGCSE) Secondary Section at WIS, Pawan Baug (2020-21)

FOREVER BOND

One simple thread ran through all the riches in the world and bagged the gold. This is Raksha Bandhan when a dotting sister has the most gracious prayers and wishes for her lovely brother; when she prays to God to give her lovely brother good health, a long life, a world of happiness, positivity, peace and all that he desires in this world. She wishes for an immense love that will bind their heart and life and will make their bond of togetherness stronger. For a brother, he vows to stand by her side no matter what may come.

Such an extraordinary day couldn’t be left out by Witty International School, Pawan Baug, Malad (West) that bears a heart of Bharatiya Parampara. The festival of Raksha Bandhan which was known to have originated centuries before, is a special Hindu festival which is celebrated in India to symbolize the love between a brother and a sister. The festival is made up of two words, namely "Raksha means protection" and "Bandhan means to tie”.  This occasion is celebrated on the full moon day of the Hindu luni-solar calendar in the month of Shravana which typically falls in the month of August.

Zealous and enthusiastic Wittians had one of the most endearing ways to celebrate this bond between brothers and sisters for which a very special session was conducted by the school, hosted by Mr. Sushant Panchal, an art educator and an in-house teacher. He, with his brainstorming ideas, and by adopting a hands-on approach, helped the students from Grade VI to make colourful Rakhis by using decorative threads, stars, mirrors, pearls, and flowers. Later, they observed this festival in the presence of their parents and grandparents and a sister tied a rakhi around the wrist of her brother in order to pray for his prosperity, health, and well-being. The brother in return offered a gift and promised to protect his sister from any harm under every circumstance. This initiative was supported by the Principal Mr. Bijo Kurian who always addressed the students and inspired them to cherish this bond of love with their siblings.
