Self – Defence Workshop at Witty International School Pawan Baug (2017-18).

Self – Defence Workshop

With the safety of the school children becoming a cause of concern, Witty International School, Pawan Baug, conducted a Self-defence training workshop by martial expert Mr C.K.Singh to empower the children with techniques to protect themselves from various threatening situations.
Self-defense is traditionally thought of as the ability to fight back. However, it not only incorporates the physical aspects of defending oneself against attacks, but it also teaches mental awareness and prevention tactics to stop crimes before they happen.
During the physical training stage of self-defense, students were taught valuable skills to defend themselves against ‘kicks, punches, grabs, throws, arm-holds, hair-pulls, chokes, bear-hugs, floor holds, gun attacks, knife attacks, stick attacks and multiple-attackers.’ Various scenarios such as being pinned against a wall, being pushed or being pulled were simulated. The students were then shown the tactics to escape or deal with those situations.
During the mental aspects of self-defense training, students were taught assault avoidance strategies “by helping them to critically observe their physical surroundings, the behaviour of others and teach them to listen to and trust their own intuition and instincts,” said Aaron Banks. They understood safety actions that would allow them to eliminate the potential for danger.

Learning self-defence strategies not only involves physically tackling threats to safety, but also the ability to identify and avoid potentially unsafe circumstances. These strategies cultivate in individuals the ability to remain alert yet calm at all times,” said Principal, Mr Bijo Kurian.
